Councillors represent local residents, work to develop better services and deliver local change. The public have high expectations and entrust councillors to represent the local area, taking decisions fairly, openly and transparently. Councillors have both an individual and collective responsibility to meet these expectations by maintaining high standards and demonstrating good conduct. 

Councillors should be able to undertake their role without being intimidates, abused, bullied, or threatened by anyone, including the general public.

This training session focuses on the following:

- Legal framework

- General principles

- Interests

- Dispensations

- General obligations and breaches

SALC has designed a development pathway for councillors to help individuals plan how to grow their knowledge and utilise a range of resources already available across the sector.
